Hi, Lovelies.

(Note; This post was supposed to be published on August 14th, but apparently, I had technical difficulties with my blog. Thanks for your patience. I’ll be sure to post more soon.)

It’s been an absolutely chaotic past two weeks as I say my goodbyes to everyone and pack all my stuff up. I’m going off to college! Well, technically, I already was in college, but now I get to go to a four year university instead of the local JUCO.  Roger State, here I come!

This is so exciting and nerve-wracking if I’m being honest. I’ve been so stressed as I’m packing, saying my goodbyes, calling doctors, making sure I have things together . So busy, which is why I’ve been so behind on my blogging. I didn’t end up posting last week, so sorry.

So, this week, I was going to talk about packing, since I’ve been doing a lot of that.

My mom was a firm believer in getting rid of stuff. And while I don’t have that firm of a belief in it as she did, I do understand where she is coming from. So whenever I’m packing or just doing a major cleanup of my room, I comb through all my stuff and get rid of stuff. Do I really need that twelfth blanket that stays in my closet? When was the last time I wore that dress? And I’m pretty sure that’s just a scrap of paper that I’ve kept for the last year. Get rid of it! Because the more stuff you get rid of, the less stuff you have to pack.

I couldn’t decide if I was going to pack everything into boxes or storage bins. With boxes, you can get rid of them after and they are so easy to get access to. But, on the other hand, I had heard that storage bins were awesome for college packing because then you have storage bins to put store stuff in throughout the semester. They stack easily into each other, but you have to buy them and how many storage bins do you really want? I ended up doing a mix of both. I packed clothes in boxes because those will be put into the closet and dresser and I packed shoes and kitchen supplies in storage bins. But that’s really up to you.

I didn’t end up making a list for myself and I regret it. I was all over the place as I was packing and had to go back to Walmart multiple times. So learn from me and make a list of all the things you need and get it all in one trip. Saves you so much time and effort.

I hate buying stuff. I never know what exactly I want or if it’s a good product and my trauma sometimes whispers to me that I don’t deserve good things. But, I needed some new stuff since the ones I had were getting worn. Also, practically every college packing list suggested bringing a mattress pad, so I wanted one of those. My advice  would be to buy what you think you need, not what all the college packing lists on blogs say. At the end of the day, if you don’t have everything you need when you arrive, you can either order it off Amazon to your dorm or go to Walmart. Walmarts are everywhere and college towns usually have places where you can pick up anything you’re missing.

After you’ve bought all the stuff you need that you might not have, start by packing your nonessentials. This just means all the stuff you don’t use on a daily basis. For me, this was my books, notebooks, and art supplies. I had such a hard time figuring out which books to take with me because I just wanted to take them all. But, when packing for college, it’s better to leave some stuff behind because dorm rooms are kinda small and don’t have lots of space.

Slowly start to pack your clothes. I started with winter clothes since it’s summer and I’m not wearing them. And then, some shoes that I wasn’t wearing often. And as the days came closer, I started packing more and more clothes until I packed all of them away and just left a couple of outfits to wear on the days leading up.

I left a few things out until the very last second like a blanket on my bed that I slept under and my pillows, glasses case, and some toiletries so I could take a shower the night before. But I bought a duffle bag that I left mostly empty, so I could stuff all the stuff I hadn’t yet packed into on the day of.

According to my cat, Dominic, tape tastes very good.

And that should be it. Just make sure everything fits in your car or whatever vehicle that you’re taking. I feel like I overpacked, but that’s okay. You’ll figure it out.

Just make sure to have fun and learn lots. Many people say that college was the best time for them where they learned about themselves and made life long friends. I hope that is also true for me and can’t wait to tell you more about my journey.

Also, if you guys have any suggestions or advice for me, I would love to hear it.
