Hi, Lovelies.
Writing a blog post a day is kinda exhausting. If you haven’t noticed my blog posts have gotten shorter and shorter as the days go on and probably have been posted later and later. But I’m here, so let’s dive into Day 8.
Today, we are doing my absolute favorite Christmas book. It’s called The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand. She’s written the Unearthly Trilogy, an angel series, which I liked and My Lady Jane, which I believed I tried, but didn’t like.

A Little About The Book
The book is inspired by A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It follows Holly Chase, a spoiled rich girl. Similarly to Scrooge, she met the Three Ghosts of Christmas, but did not end up mending her ways. Instead, she died.
However, in her afterlife, she is forced to join Project Scrooge, an organization that helps the Scrooge’s of the world mend their ways. During one of her missions, she meets a particular Scrooge, a teenage boy a little like her, and that experience changes her. It has some romance, but not cheesy and more comical. While you kinda dislike her, you also can’t help rooting for her.
It’s a book not only about second chances, but maybe third ones or more. It’s about relationships and how we affect the world around us. It was just a beautiful book and a wonderful retelling of A Christmas Carol.

My Take
I don’t remember when exactly I read this book. It might not even have been Christmas, but I do remember falling in love with it and its wittiness and hope.
That’s it for today, Lovelies. Come back tomorrow for another holiday book recommendation.
“Without stories, we’re all just lonely islands…stories let us see and hear and feel what someone else does…they build bridges to the other islands. That’s why stories are so important. They create true empathy.”
― Cynthia Hand, The Afterlife of Holly Chase
