Hi, Lovelies.

It’s day 4 of 12 Books Until Christmas. Today I’m talking about A Christmas Duet by Debbie Macomber. I read this book on my flight to Arizona and it was actually kinda perfect for that.

About the Book

It’s about a woman, Hailey Morgan, who is trying to write songs and make a career out of it. However, being a high school band teacher is exhausting and trying to be a professional musician can be difficult.

It seems that whenever you want to be something artistic or creative as a professor, people usually tell you to be realistic. I should know. While most of the people around me are encouraging, there is still this subtle undertone of “pick a backup career while you work on being famous” Which yes, I understand, but it still a little bit feels like discouragement or like you don’t really believe in me.

Back to Hailey Morgan. Her friend lends her a cabin in the woods to spend her Christmas break writing songs. Hailey ends up going and of course meeting a really hot musician/lumberjack type dude. Obviously, they fall in love and he is encouraging of her music. But that is just generic romance book stuff.

What I enjoyed was the feeling of community in a small town. I am currently in a small middle of nowhere town in Arizona. Population of approximately a thousand people, most of them old, with no real grocery store. But there is something so enchanting about small towns. The way everybody knows everybody. Of course, there is also a little silent judgement because how does this well-known and loved Christian old lady have a Chinese granddaughter. It’s called adoption, people. But mostly, everybody is so friendly. There is a peace and quiet in a small town that you don’t always get in other places. If you can’t tell, I’m not a city girl.

Conclusion

The book also did a beautiful job on family relationships. Throughout the book, Hailey worked on repairing relationships with her mom and sister. So often, we believe that our siblings got the better end of the deal in our parental relationships, but oftentimes they are fighting their own battles.

Anyways, if you want a cute, short book about small towns, falling in love, repairing relationships, then this is for you. Warning, it is a little cheesy.

I hoped you enjoyed hearing my thoughts, Lovelies. Have a great day and talk to you tomorrow!
